LAHORE: Unidentified gunmen fired upon Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan’s car near Manga Mandi on Wednesday while returning from Multan.
Khan and two other passengers survived the attack.
Talking to The Express Tribune, the deputy speaker said that he was returning from Multan, without his security escort, when the attackers, who were on foot, attacked his official car near the Sundar Estate on Multan Road. He commended his driver for their presence of mind and prompt evasive action.
“The driver was smart enough to swiftly turn the car back towards Multan,” the Deputy Speaker said, his driver spirited him away as soon as the assailants fired upon them. “The armed men were probably aiming at the car’s wheels, some bullets though hit the car in the front and back,” he said.
Khan added that he did not intend to register a case.
Station House Officer (SHO) Manga Mandi, Jahangir Butt said that they rushed to the site as soon as they got news of the incident via their wireless communicators, however, the assailants had managed to escape during that time.
Butt added that they had not received any application for the registration of the case, however an investigation has been initiated.
There can be only two reasons why he doesn’t intend to register a case:
He knows who sent the attackers and he will deal with them himself.
He knows who sent the attackers but does not have what it takes to deal with them.Recommend
Incident took place.
Now it is the duty of the Police to investigate the matter and arrest the culprits whether Rana Mashood Ahmed report the incident in writing or not.

“Khan added that he did not intend to register a case.” This is a very unusual and irresponsible comment to make as the world continues to look on with a mixture of bemusement and amusement.
