Police officials on Saturday afternoon shot a citizen for not stopping at a barrier set up for security checks.
According to eyewitnesses, dozens of neighbours then caught three police officials detained them and publicly flogged them with sticks. The incident reportedly took place in the Satellite Town precinct where police officials tried to stop the motorcycle Kashif, a resident of the area, was riding. When Kashif did not stop, one of the police officials opened fire seriously injuring the man.
Khoi Wala residents speaking to The Express Tribune identified the police officials involved as Inspectors Rana Abdullah, Shahid Majeed and Saifuddin Khan. “All three were calling after Kashif and then each of them fired shots in his direction,” said an eyewitness Amina Bibi.
Dozens of people then seized the police officials and beat them with sticks.
“Some of us called the ambulance but it was taking too long so we drove Kashif to the hospital. He was unconscious. The rest stayed behind to deal with the policemen,” said Badar. “I drove him to the hospital where he is in a serious condition.
“He got shot in the leg. Another bullet skimmed his elbow,” he added.
Khoi Wala residents then blocked the road for several hours and protested against the police. Another group of residents seized the three policemen and took them into a shop where they were brutally beaten. “They were beating the police with sticks and there were dozens of them in the store,” said a shop keeper Latif.
The Satellite Town Station House Officer (SHO) and District Superintendent Police (DSP) soon reached the scene and rescued the police officials.
“The police arrived with a very large contingent and sealed the area. They pacified the crowd but refused to punish the officers. They just took them away to the station,” Latif added.
“We demand that these police officials be fired. Such people cannot serve the public,” said Badar. Police officials said that they were investigating the matter and had registered a case against the officials.
“There can be no action without a proper investigation. If the officials are found guilty strict action will be taken against them,” the SHO said.
A charged crowd continued to protest after the police left and blocked the Upper Chenab Road for several hours.
They also vandalised several police vehicles before police negotiated with them.

Kashif should have stopped. The situation in Pakistan requires checkpoints and not stopping when asked leads to an adverse reaction. I would have shot at him to if i was in their shoes. They got him to stop did they not?
But why the Kashif has not stopped on asking of a duty staff. The people should learn the discipline. The peole who had beaten the staff should be got captured under law.
