PESHAWAR:

A clash between members of the Pakhtun Students Federation (PSF) and Waziristan Students Federation (WSF) at Islamia College University (ICU), on Monday, left three injured.

Talking to The Express Tribune, a student, who requested his name be withheld, said the two groups scuffled a couple of weeks back over teasing girls in the college. He said members of PSF allegedly teased girl students in the college canteen upon which WSF intervened and asked the students not to annoy them.

“When members of both groups came face to face today, they again exchanged harsh words and scuffled with each other.

A source said the three students who sustained stab wounds were taken to the Khyber Teaching Hospital. Some outsiders also entered the campus and joined the fight.

However, Yousaf Jan, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of University Campus Police Station rejected the impression that the groups clashed over girls and said it because some students had created a disturbance in the class.

He said police officials had arrested 19 students from both groups.

Later, Vice Chancellor, ICU, Haider Shah Jadoon held a meeting with police officers and said departmental action would be taken against the perpetrators. Group leaders also held negotiations with each other and gave the assurance that such incidents would not be happen in future.
