Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar expects that the Pak-Iran gas pipeline will be completed by 2014 and dismissed the impression that progress on the project had slowed due to fresh US sanctions on Iran.
While talking to the Voice of Germany the minister mentioned that ongoing work was rapidly progressing and would reach completion in the near future.
The minister explained that the US sanctions on Iran were related to petroleum goods and excluded gas.
The National Bank of Pakistan and the Oil and Gas Development Company recently backed out of the project due to the US sanctions.
The project is expected to facilitate the import of 700 million cubic feet of gas every day through the 2,100 kilometre pipeline which will ease the current energy crisis.
