From south Punjab: 2.5m women to be linked to BISP

DERA GHAZI KHAN: NADRA has commenced the process of linking up and registering the 2.5 million women of south Punjab. These women are eligible for the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) but could not avail the benefits previously due to not having appropriate documents of identity, said Colonel Safdar, in charge of 13 districts of southern Punjab. On his visit to Dera Ghazi Khan, he also announced plans to open another NADRA office in the city to facilitate inhabitants. Talking to The Express Tribune, he said that NADRA had started the process to register and link south Punjab’s women so that they can avail the benefits of BISP. This process of registration would be accomplished through a collaboration of journalists, social and political workers of the region, he added. NADRA’s mobile teams would visit every union council of the region, said Safdar. Replying to a question, he said that NADRA has modified its software so that it will now be possible for people of Dera Ghazi Khan to have the name of their city mentioned on CNICs instead of ‘Illaqa-e- Ghair’ as done presently.
