More than 600 industrial units of Faisalabad region remained closed on Thursday under the new gas load-shedding schedule for four days a week, which angered employers and workers who took out processions and blocked busy roads to protest the outage.
At the call of businessmen, particularly those related to the textile industry, the employers and employees staged demonstrations at all entry points of the city, chanted slogans and blamed the government for the mismanagement.
The major procession was taken out from the Millat Industrial Estate, which blocked Millat Road for several hours.
Briefing the media, Paki-stan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PHMA) North Zone Chief Coordinator Chaudhry Salamat Ali said the government was creating hurdles in smooth running of the textile industry by reducing gas pressure.
He said the government should honour its commitment, ward off the devastating impact of gas curtailment and review its priorities on gas supply to save the value added export-oriented and labour-intensive textile industry.
