MANSEHRA: Although no group has claimed responsibility for Saturday’s remote-controlled bomb attack on the police van in Torghar district, police have registered a criminal case under the anti-terrorism law against unidentified attackers, official sources revealed.

Although the case has been filed but no arrest has so far been made, sources added. A criminal case under section 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act 302, 109 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code was registered with the Torghar police station.

Four police recruits were killed and 15 injured when a police van carrying 32 newly-inducted constables came under attack. The van was partially damaged when it hit the remote-controlled explosive device planted near Perkhoona village on Oghi road. The van was on its way to the Abbottabad Police Training School to drop the trainees, official sources said.

“It was an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing 2.5 kilogrammes that terrorists had planted on the roadside,” the Hazara police acting deputy inspector general (DIG) engineer Kareem Khan told The Express Tribune.

The acting DIG also confirmed the death toll and said that ten seriously injured recruits were admitted for the Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad, while the other five were under treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital Battagram.

Responding to a query, the acting DIG said that none of the terrorist groups have claimed responsibility of the attack so far. Khan also said that it was too early to fix responsibility on a specific person or group. However, he added that facts will become clear after the investigation concludes.

Dominated by Pushto-speaking tribes, Torghar district earlier known as Kala Dhaka, was being managed by the Khasadar force before it was given the status of the sixth settled district of Hazara division this year.
