Hate Amrica; crush Amrika (II)

Letter September 30, 2011
US has a well-documented history of first befriending states and then ditching them.

KARACHI: I generally agree with what Mr Kamran Shafi writes and look forward to reading his column. However, at times he is a bit hard on the army. For instance, the “original sin” for taking the American line back in 50s was not decision taken by the military. Similarly, the “jihad” in Afghanistan was a product of the CIA and one can see from simply reading various American publications from the 1980s such as Time or Newsweek which used to carry several articles to convince their readers that it would bring about much benefit to their country.

As for things like double-crossing one’s allies or engaging in proxy wars, it has to be said that our American friends are in fact experts in both of these things. They have a well-documented history of first befriending states and then ditching them. And that is what seems to be happening yet again in Afghanistan.
