ISLAMABAD:

Dozens of deaths and thousands of infected patients later, the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Friday claimed it has the expertise and capability to fight the dengue epidemic and can provide assistance to the Punjab government.

“The PPP would be happy to assist the Punjab government in fighting the disease and providing relief to the people, if called upon by the Punjab Chief Minister to do so”, a press statement from the party’s co-chairman’s office said.

The statement, sent to the media by the president’s spokesperson Farhatullah Babar quoted party’s information secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira as saying that PPP doctors wing was fully organised and equipped for the task.

It also added: “Human suffering must not be politicised … the offer to help alleviate suffering of sick people will [hopefully] not be turned down for political expediency.”
