Farhan advances in squash tournament

KARACHI: Teenager Farhan Zaman entered the second qualifying round of PSF-CAA Pakistan International Circuit II after a hard-fought victory over Amjad Khan at the Mushaf Squash Complex in Islamabad.

The 19-year old from Peshawar, representing Pakistan Air Force, fought back strongly after dropping two games to overcome Amjad of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), a former Pakistan Open champion, in five games with a 7-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-5 score-line in 44 minutes.

Sindh’s Jahanzaib Khan also progressed to the second qualifying round defeating KP’s Naved Khan 11-7, 11-8, 5-11, 8-11, 11-8 in 30 minutes.

Hamza Bukhari, Mujahid Hussain, Nowsherwan Khan, Safeerullah, Abbas Ali and Aurangzeb Mehmand were the other players to enter the final qualifying round of the tournament that will see the country’s top players in action in the main round.

The winners of the final qualifying round will join 12 top players to complete a draw of 16 in the main rounds starting tomorrow. Pakistan’s top-ranked player Amir Atlas is the top seed in the tournament that offers $10,000 as the winning prize.
