An unpleasant experience

KARACHI: Excited to hear about the opening of Port Grand in Karachi, we visited the place this past weekend, at around 7 pm. Sadly, it was spoiled by the harassment of my wife that occurred at the entrance by a member of the project’s security team.

After frisking me at the entrance, one of the security guards went ahead and frisked my wife! And even as he did this, she vociferously objected, but to no avail. The excuse that was provided to us later by the management, after we lodged a formal complaint, was that the guard had weak eyesight and he failed to notice that my wife was a woman!

We had a discussion with the manager of the place and we asked for a letter of apology from the management for the guard’s improper conduct. Initially, the manager apologised and graciously accepted this request. Later, after talking to someone senior, he informed us that there would be no apology letter and that we would have to come to the Port Grand head office on the next working day to discuss the situation. He was right — the letter of apology never came, and my wife is still reeling from the trauma that she suffered as a result of the improper search.
