QUETTA:

A National Party (NP) leader was on Thursday gunned down by unknown assailants in Shahrak area, some 20 kilometers from Turbat city. The murder appears to be an incident of targeted killing, a senior police officer of Kech District said.

According to an official of Balochistan Levies, Deputy Organiser NP Kech district, Nasim Jangiyan, was sitting at a roadside hotel when unknown armed men on a motorbike opened fire at him, killing him on the spot. His body was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Turbat.

Local law enforcement agencies are investigating the matter. “It could be an incident of targeted killing,” a senior police officer said, adding that earlier NP central leader Maulla Baksh Dashti was also killed in a similar manner.

Addressing a news conference at Quetta Press Club, NP provincial president announced ten days of mourning to condemn Jangyian’s murder. “Dozens of leaders of Baloch nationalist parties are targeted and killed while not even arrest warrants are issued. The government is responsible for ensuring the protection of its citizens but here in Balochistan it seems that the government is sleeping,” he said.

He also announced that the NP will observe a province-wide shutter-down strike today and urged all nationalist parties to back the strike call.

“Balochistan is burning and the government has failed to contain the damage. It should stop lying,” he added.
