BAHAWALPUR: President of Punjab’s She-male Association Shana Abbasi, vice-president Sahiba Jahan along with the association’s other office-bearers, warmly welcomed the delegation of Haryana’s she-male association. The visiting Indian delegates prayed for the departed soul of Najma, a member of the Bahawalpur she-male association who died of a heart attack two months ago. In a press conference, the association’s member Haji Hassan said he was grateful to Chief Justice Iftikhar Ahmed Chaudhry for granting rights to transgender population, while expressing the hope that these rights will be protected by the government in the long run. One of the Indian delegate said they enjoyed all possible rights in India, adding that they were even allowed participation in elections, and as many as 40 members in Indian national and provincial assemblies belonged to the transgender community.
