GUJRANWALA: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said that the government plans to establish the largest hydro power plant in Asia.

Addressing a gathering in the Aimanabad area of Gujranwala after inaugurating the Gulf Power Plant, Gilani expressed hope that Pakistan would double its power generation within the next ten years, and that the government would provide full support in this regard.

He said the government is serious about ending the power crisis, as temperatures continue to rise, and power outages force people on to the streets in protest.

Assuring that the government was providing full support to local and foreign investors, Gilani lauded the completion of Gulf Power Project as a step towards a better future.

He is either joking or he is very much uninformed. The largest hydro power plant in Asia is in China with a capacity of more than 25,000 MWh, on three gorges river. Pakistan does not have such a large river. Besides the entire Pakistan is now making 10,000 MWh.Recommend

Oh my God!! What a news!! Thankyou Mr. PM!
I think its about time the government realizes that the Pakistani nation is wide AWAKE! And does understand where such statements are coming from, it brings no respite to the nation that is already going through the worst of times, where they face the shortage of almost every thing ! Forget the electricity!Recommend

Hydro power plant is the need of the hour. Even if this government is unable to make such a huge power plant, atleast they will initiate a project or a proposal. What needs to be addressed is our awareness about these projects. Hydro power plants are much more environment friendly than the conventional thermal power plants. They should be promoted. Even if the government cannot support these ideas, the private sector should support it. We are supporting the idea by initiating a project on Hydro power plant. Though its a small scale project but it is a START for a Greener Pakistan.Recommend

If we establish small hydro power plants at every gorge where snow strats melting and water starts its downward journey and then at every few miles down stream, we can produce power many times more, before the water reaches Tarbela and ManglaRecommend
