The Association of Women for Awareness and Motivation (Awam) has called upon the federal government to appoint a chief election commissioner with the consultation of the opposition.
On Friday, Awam representatives said that the election commissioner must be not be connected with any political party and hold a reputation of being a man of integrity. The demand was made in an open forum, Free and Fair Electoral Process: Challenges and Resolves, jointly organised by (Awam), in collaboration with the Centre for Human Rights Education (CHRE) which was held at Quaid-i-Azam Hall. Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said that the chief election commissioner must be appointed in consultation with the opposition and government allies after asserting his credibility, reputation and impartiality. The speakers also said that intra-party elections should also be held as per the constitution of all political parties.
