ISLAMABAD: Much is being said about the manner in which Raymond Davis was released and allowed to leave Pakistan. It has also come to light that the additional district and sessions judge who was officiating the case has gone on leave after he approved the diyat agreement. The PML-N and the Punjab government’s law minister have said that the matter was decided by the court as per Pakistani law. While this may be the case, one wonders whether the conduct of the additional district and sessions judge will be scrutinised by the chief justice of the Lahore High Court, who also happens to be the administrative head of all courts in Punjab?
This is the least that should be done, really, given that the superior judiciary often sees to it that suo motu notice is taken of instances where the public good is deemed to have been damaged or wronged.
