Sindh government hospitals

Improving the entire healthcare system in Sindh has become the need of the hour

SHIKARPUR: Pakistan neglects the most important aspects of a society. Likewise, it has never had a decent healthcare system, leading many precious lives towards death. This statistic includes children who had their whole lives ahead of them, especially in Sindh. A 45-day-old child was admitted to Civil Hospital in Karachi recently and had been fighting a brain haemorrhage for a week. Time and again, doctors claimed ventilators were not available in the hospital so they could not treat patients. This made me wonder where the seven billion-rupee budget vanished, which was given to improve quality of healthcare in Sindh. Somehow, the budget is utilised but the entire health system of Sindh remains in shambles.

Recently, an incident occurred in Shikarpur that perplexed Sindh’s entire healthcare system. Reportedly, a pregnant lady went to the government hospital but was refused treatment by doctors. At the same time, she was asked for money but she could not afford to pay. Finally, while sitting in a garden outside the hospital, she delivered the baby herself. After delivery, the hospital did not facilitate her with an ambulance or other equipment. Rather, she went home using a cart with her newborn baby. Is this not a shameful act by doctors? Have they not lost their humanity? Are they really serving society? This inhumane incident proves that doctors are only labelled as a blessing for humanity but somehow, they turn out to be the killers of humanity sometimes. They are at times uneducated in behaviour even though they are highly qualified from well-known universities. An educated man with a harsh attitude can never be called a real educated man.

Resultantly, improving the entire healthcare system in Sindh has become the need of the hour. Policies should be revamped to improve the healthcare system and set standard guidelines for all doctors to follow.
