Eradicating child labour

Letter January 15, 2017
Many children work in football manufacturing factories

ISLAMABAD: I am writing this letter to raise my voice against child labour in Pakistan as I feel our leaders are not doing anything about it. Pakistan is on the top of the list of countries where child labour is common.

Children should have pens in their hands not tools as they are not responsible to carry the tribulation of their families on their weak shoulders. Our government has passed many laws in order to eradicate this malpractice but unfortunately it is still a part of our society.

Many children work in football manufacturing factories, others work in brick klins and some are employed as servants. Poverty is the chief cause of child labour. Even in the year 2017 we failed to provide protection to the daughter of our country, Tayyaba who was beaten to death by her employers and nobody was there to rescue her.

I want the youth of my country to come forward and to raise their voice against this issue as Mahatma Gandhi said “Be the change you want to see in the world.” If we want to develop our country and if we want to see Pakistan as a glorious nation then we first have to develop a bright future for our children.
