Counterfeit production: Two held for making spurious drugs

Medicines are made in unhygienic conditions and are unfit for human consumption

MULTAN: Drug officials and police raided a factory involved in manufacturing counterfeit herbal and veterinary medicines in Khanewal on Thursday.

District Drug Controller Tahira Babar and police raided a factory in Perowal involved in making fake herbal and veterinary medicines. While speaking to journalists, Tahira said, “The medicines are unregistered and the factory owner also has no licence.” He added, “The medicines are made in unhygienic conditions and are unfit for human consumption.”

He said the raiding team also arrested two suspects from the spot who were identified as Muhammad Usman and Muhammad Zafar. He said the factory had been sealed and legal action will be taken against the owner.

Earlier, an illegal herbal pharmaceutical factory was sealed and raw material and manufactured medicines were confiscated in Kattarband area near Thokar Niaz Baig.

The factory was producing food supplement for children and other herbal products illegally as it was not registered. Moreover, cleanliness condition in the factory was unsatisfactory. An employee of the factory, Abdullah, was also arrested on the spot.
