Akra Kaur Dam, Gwadar

Letter December 14, 2016
I request the authorities concerned to take major steps towards this issue and fast

PANJGUR: This letter is with reference to the December 11 editorial, “Thirsty Gwadar.” Gwadar is the backbone of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). It is most unfortunate that the district faces a growing water crisis. According to news reports, the Akra Kaur Dam has almost dried up because of the prolonged drought, which is the sole source of water for the inhabitants of Gwadar and surrounding areas.

Sadly, this is the third time that Gwadar and surrounding territories are facing a severe water crisis in six years. The city’s population is also flourishing due to the CPEC project and the crisis will become more severe until strong measures are taken immediately. I request the authorities concerned to take major steps towards this issue and fast.
