A matter of public safety cannot be delayed further and the authorities should be held accountable
LAHORE: Construction work on a portion of Eastern Service Road along the motorway in Lahore, near the Thokar Niaz Baig area began in June 2016. The project of the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) envisaged the revamping of a patch consisting of just 3,650 running feet. The unfinished work of the road patch is causing unbearable pain to residents of the area. Earlier, a drain running along the road was covered with reinforced concrete slabs providing space for the crossing of vehicles on an otherwise a very narrow road. In a bid to revamp the road, the contractor has removed those concrete slabs and now, the drain lies wide open, posing a grave danger to the vehicles plying on it. Numerous accidents have been reported due to the incomplete and abandoned work. CDGL authorities should ensure completion of the road project at priority. A matter of public safety cannot be delayed further and the authorities should be held accountable.
