Reckless coach drivers

Letter December 02, 2016
Passengers must also be watchful because nothing is precious than the lives of our loved ones

KARACHI: Not everyone who travels can afford train or airplane tickets. However, travel by coach or bus is common in Pakistan. It is an affordable and economical means of travel because you can easily get a ticket on the spot.

The ride is not pleasant, however, because of unethical drivers who are always trying to save their time and reach their destinations as fast as possible, without realising they are putting their life as well as the lives of the passengers and other people travelling on the same route in danger. They drive at a minimum speed of 120 and never miss a chance to overtake other vehicles, despite knowing the fact that their own vehicle is really heavy and requires extra braking time.

There have been many bus crashes lately in Pakistan, mostly because of the carelessness of the drivers, who think of themselves as experts and risk their lives along with hundreds of other lives. It seems at least one accident a week takes place.

The government and citizens should take serious notice and the motorway and highway police should keep strict eyes on these kinds of drivers to prevent accidents. Passengers must also be watchful because nothing is precious than the lives of our loved ones.
