Passport problem

Letter November 09, 2016
It will also provide the passport department an easier way to scrutinise the changes

LAHORE: This is apropos the letter “Passport problem” published on October 27. The complainant mentioned in the letter that, “on leaving the government or autonomous job, one must make a new passport.” Firstly, I think a new passport is required to be made since there is a change of job category and office address.

Instead of levying a heavy fee of Rs5,400 for a new passport and wasting the time period left before its expiration however, the passport department should, upon the applicant’s request, hand over a letter to the applicant mentioning the change of job category and office address. The applicant could then staple this to his or her valid passport. The passport department should mark the changes and issuance of the letter in its database so that upon inquiry from any department, the changes are clearly marked and available. The passport holder, then, is required to present this along with his or her passport to prove the valid changes.

If the passport department acts upon this suggestion, it will save the passport bearer from going through the pains of a long and tiresome process and saving his hard-earned money. It will also provide the passport department an easier way to scrutinise the changes.
