Gender equality

Millions of other women continue to struggle to reach the top in their respective fields

KARACHI: Raising one’s voice on gender equality has become a trend in the past few years. Everybody seems to be so obsessed with gender equality and demands to give equal rights to both genders but no substantial efforts have been made in this direction. There is no denying the fact that giving equal rights to both women and men will not only give a boost to the economic development of the country but it would also help in making our country socially and environmentally developed as well; a place where human rights are not only for men. Although gender equality is a concept that holds importance in every culture, whether we talk of a developed or developing country, only a few countries seem to provide equal rights to both sexes.

Keeping all issues aside, the two major issues related to gender equality are education and literacy. Despite living in the 21st century, the majority of girls in rural areas and Northern Areas are deprived of education, let alone quality education. Such discrimination is very prevalent and it creates disparity, which is shows of if we look at Pakistan’s statistical data on women and illiteracy. Undeniably, women across the world are now in some of the same top positions as men in fields such as technology, medicine, education, research and sports, but it is a bitter reality that this reflects only a fraction of women across the world. Millions of other women continue to struggle to reach the top in their respective fields.

It is a high time to take serious measures to give equal support, appreciation, and financial incentives to our women if we seriously want our country to prosper.
