Battered roads

Letter September 22, 2016
The authorities concerned are requested to take notice of this issue

LAHORE: This is apropos the letter under the headline “Battered roads” (September 9). It has been about four months now that the government has started a sewerage pipeline, water supply and road construction project at Upper Mall, which is not yet complete. During the entire process, residents of the area have faced a lot of problems, including a gas pipeline burst, water- supply pipeline damaged and telephone main line damaged. To fix the issues, residents had to make complaints and pay frequent visits to the departments concerned. Only then would the employees come and rectify the problem. At some junctures, sewerage workers simply refused to do the digging and one had to pay local labour from his or her own pocket to do the job.

Yet, after having gone through all the difficulties, the roads lie unfinished, being a source of serious trouble to residents. Upon asking the contractor, it was revealed that all expenditure for this project was taken from his own pocket and the government had not approved the budget yet, hence the delay. The authorities concerned are requested to take notice of this issue so that the project can be completed as soon as possible.
