Political awareness

Pakistan’s population mostly comprises young adults and considering they are more interested in politics now

ISLAMABAD: Political awareness in our country was boosted when the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf came into action in 2013. No one knows if ever there is going to be a solid positive change in the country but for the first time, I have seen people concerned about what will happen next in the political world of Pakistan. Previously, there were current affairs programmes that were not concerned with politics nor supported any political group, ideology or party. Now, politics is not only under discussion among old and retired people but it is also a major subject of discussion among the Pakistani youth.

Being an undergraduate student, I realise that currently, at least, the political scenario is being discussed by students of my age, which is itself a change in society. It is not of any concern to which party a particular person belongs to; what matters is that at least it is under discussion.

The youth is a mirror of society. Pakistan’s population mostly comprises young adults and considering they are more interested in politics now, there will, one day, be a bright future for them wherein they will elect a praiseworthy leader. Educated and politically aware people will be the best gift to Pakistan. As Sir Herbert Read once stated, “Great changes in the destiny of mankind can be effected only in the minds of little children.”
