Saba Pervez Dada, owner of the furniture and lifestyle store, Address, and her sister Sanya Pervez speak to us about their childhood. From decorating their rooms with Spice Girls posters, pretending to be twins, and even a 3am Uber ride to New York City, they’ve  done it all!

What’s your first memory of each other?

Saba: My first memory of Sanya was when I was eight years old. I remember feeling like a little angel had come into our lives.

Sanya: When she would play dress up with me in our old house and how we both decorated our room with Spice Girls posters.

What is the craziest thing you have done together?

Saba: Sanya brings out the craziness in me! When I visited her in Boston, in 2014, we almost made a spontaneous plan at three in the morning to take an Uber to New York.

Sanya: On our very first ‘sisters trip’ in Bangkok, we went zip lining together. That is probably the most adventurous thing I have ever done, since I am not an outdoorsy person.

What did you get punished for the most as a child?

Saba: Not being able to finish my meals.

Sanya: I got in trouble for running away with Saba’s clothes and then dressing up identical to her, so I could pretend to be her twin.

If you could only wear one piece of clothing for the rest of your life, from the others closet, what would it be?

Saba: Her most comfortable pyjamas! She has the softest collection of nightwear; it’s the best!

Sanya: Her shoes. Lucky for her, she is a different size than me, but I absolutely love her funky and diverse shoe collection.

If you could swap places with each other, what’s the first thing
you would do?

Saba: I would travel around the US, the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.

Sanya: I would adopt her son Aarez, and keep him all to myself. He is the cutest thing in the world.

What is the one thing you love about your sister?

Saba: Her ability to make anyone laugh and how she brightens up the room with her presence. She has a vibrant and uplifting aura, which I absolutely love about her.

Sanya: Even with an eight-year age difference, she happens to be my best friend and like a mother to me. She brings out her inner child when we are together, yet she always mentors me and is always there for me whenever I need her.

If you are fighting with each other, how do you make up?

Saba: We eventually forget about it and start talking again like it never happened.

Sanya: We ignore each other for about 10 minutes, and then randomly start laughing and joking around, until we finally hug it out. She is the one person I cannot stay mad at for more than 20 minutes.

What is the one secret talent your sister has, that you wish you did too?

Saba: Her persuasion skills. She is excellent at convincing people without even trying too hard.

Sanya: She is so determined. When she sets her mind on something, there is nothing in the world that could stop her from doing it.

Describe your sister in three words:

Saba: Crazy, cheerful, and lots of fun!

Sanya: Adventurous, positive and independent.

Which fictional character is your sister most like?

Saba: I don’t follow too many TV shows but I think Haley from Modern Family, because of her upbeat spirit.

Sanya: Brooke from One Tree Hill. She is very independent, headstrong and is always on the go.

How are your personalities similar?

Saba: We are not similar but I feel that is what makes our relationship so special. We fill in the gaps for each other and bring out the best in each other. However, one thing all us siblings have in common is unity and honesty. Over the years, I have seen her grow from a little girl to the most responsible, and determined young woman.

Sanya: Even though she is much older than me in age, she is the twin sister I never had. She is spontaneous, adventurous and lives her life to the fullest. There is never a dull moment around her.

I can’t live without my sister because…

Saba: She is the biggest and the most colourful part of my world. Without her, my days would be lost and meaningless.

Sanya: She is a pillar of strength for our family. I could not imagine my childhood without her. From copying all her outfits, to pretending to be twins, to getting her in trouble with our mom, to sneaking food under the dinner table, and playing hide-and-seek for hours on end, she has been my best friend through it all.
