IHK: glacial indifference

Letter August 22, 2016
It is a pity that the world continues to turn a blind eye to these atrocities

KARACHI: Since 1947, the disputed territory of Kashmir has been a prominent point of conflict between Pakistan and India. Three wars have so far been fought over Kashmir. Regularly, many issues are raised in United Nations Human Rights Council, but the Council is distant and aloof when it comes to the Kashmir dispute, which is costing hundreds of lives in Kashmir.

The Indian army is at the helm of affairs and has been brutal. Even though pellet guns are illegal, it has continued to use them against protestors in Kashmir. More than 100 people have been injured by them and three people have been killed. People have had life-altering injuries such as blindness after being hit by a pellet in their eye. It is a pity that the world continues to turn a blind eye to these atrocities.
