Rising medicine prices

It has become very trying for the poor to feed their family

SHIKARPUR: In the last one year, it’s the third time around that pharmaceutical companies have raised the prices of medicines. Not only were the rates raised but finding medicines for epilepsy and tuberculosis has become a challenge. The current upsurge in prices is a declaration that health facilities and medicines are obviously not meant for the underprivileged.

It has become very trying for the poor to feed their family. Daily-wage earners can’t afford proper food and basic education for their children, and hence can’t even imagine purchasing any other essentials.

Government hospitals, too, are not working efficiently — and who suffers as a result of all this? It’s certainly not the elite. The government must look into the matter and fulfil its duty to provide basic health facilities to the disadvantaged in society.
