KARACHI: A middle-aged man has been arrested by the police for killing his wife inside their house in the name of 'honour'. The accused allegedly also killed his first wife about 15 years ago citing the same reason.

Thirty-year-old F* was killed inside her house in a katchi abadi in the Metroville area of SITE early Wednesday morning. The accused, identified as 52-year-old Rahim Dad, slit her throat with a sharp object after suspecting that the mother of his three children was having illicit relations with another man.

"My wife had relations with another man. I am not ashamed what I have done," he said, while confessing to the murder. "I warned her many times but she did not understand. I even tried to convince her the night before I killed her," he claimed.

The accused said that after a heated argument between them, he first stabbed F with a knife and then slit her throat with a sharp object.

Neighbours gathered outside their house after hearing F's cries and caught the accused. The mob also beat him up. The police reached the site and took custody of the suspect before shifting him to the police station. The police also claim to have seized the murder weapon.

Not the first time

Dad had also killed his first wife in Jacobabad about 15 years ago for the same reason, informed the police.

"He [Dad] had been imprisoned for killing his first wife who was his maternal uncle's daughter with whom he also had three children," informed SITE SHO Taj Muhammad Wasan. "This time around, he is also giving the same reason."

The officer said that both the accused and his wife hail from Peshawar and the police were also looking for the family of the victim.

The officer said it seems that the accused is trying to defend himself by giving a reason for killing his wife, however, a case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
