The first-ever young parliamentarians’ conference of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) will kick off here on Tuesday, to highlight issues related to and voices of the youth from the region, said a press release.
The moot, which will be attended by 50 delegates from the Saarc member countries and six international experts, will lay down a foundation for inter-parliamentary linkages across South Asia, help in developing a platform for nurturing regional interaction, support democratic norms and build a coalition for sustained dialogue and cooperation.
The conference being jointly hosted by the National Assembly and the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services.
The conference will offer the young parliamentarians’ the narrative as a prelude to the 19th Saarc Summit that Pakistan is going to host in November.
The moot will also offer them an opportunity to give their perspectives regarding regional peace, development, regional trade, cultural diplomacy, human rights and youth issues.
Four members each from India, Afghanistan, Nepal, Maldives, five from Bhutan, six from Sri Lanka, and 25 from the host country will participate in the conference.
