LAHORE: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong met Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Matters regarding agreements signed during Sharif’s recent visit to China were discussed at the meeting. The Chinese ambassador congratulated Shahbaz Sharif on his successful visit to China.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that his recent visit to China had been very successful. “My meetings with Communist Party of China leadership, ministers, investors and industrialists were very fruitful. We agreed to promote development cooperation between China and Pakistan,” the chief minister said.

He thanked the Chinese leadership, the Communist Party of China and business community for the warm welcome extended to him.

“The respect shown to me during the visit can never be forgotten. Senior Chinese leadership and Communist Party of China expressed deep love and confidence during the visit. The deep-rooted friendly relations between China and Pakistan are turning into strong economic ties. The two countries are benefiting,” the chief minister said.

He said that exchange of visits between China and Pakistan had opened up new avenues of economic cooperation and progress. “A large number of Chinese companies are taking interest in investing in Pakistan, especially in the Punjab,” he said.

The CM said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor [CPEC] is of vital importance for national development and it has taken Pakistan-China friendship to new heights. “This project will result in progress and prosperity not only of Pakistan, but of the entire region. Completion of this project will result in creation of more jobs, promotion of trade activities and economic prosperity,” he said.

The chief minister said that Pakistan-China friendship was a precious asset. “The fact that Pakistan is being considered among the emerging economies at world level is a proof of good governance and exemplary planning. The credit for this goes to the vision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his successful economic policies,” the chief minister said.

The Chinese ambassador appreciated the measures taken by the government for economic progress and infrastructure development. “Chinese investment in the Punjab is increasing due to the facilities being provided to them. Trade and industrial cooperation is also growing between the two countries,” the chief minister said. He said that due to the trade-friendly policies of the government, Chinese companies were giving preference to Pakistan for investment.

Senator Sajid Mir met the chief minister on Tuesday. The chief minister said that Pakistan was moving towards progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. “The goal of national progress and prosperity will be achieved. A lot of work has been done during last three years for coping with the challenges faced by the country,” the chief minister said. He said that the decisions taken by the government were yielding positive results.
