BAHAWALPUR: Two people died on Thursday night in apparent gun accidents in Yazman and Kot Sabzal police precincts.

Kot Sabzal Investigation Officer Rana Muhammad Ashraf told journalists on Friday that Nisar Ahmad Bohar had accidently shot his wife while cleaning a pistol on Thursday night.

Bohar had married Rehmat Bibi, daughter of Ghulam Nabi Bohar, earlier this week. Police said a bullet had apparently gotten stuck in the pistol chamber. It had gone off killing Rehmat Bibi, who had been sitting in front of him.

Neighbours told the police that there was reason to doubt Bohar’s claim because he had apparently been unhappy with the marriage. Ashraf said some of the neighbours had told them that it was possible that Bohar had deliberately killed Bibi and made it look like an accident. “We have taken Bohar into custody for interrogation and have registered an FIR against him.” He said the body had been taken to a hospital for post-mortem examination.

Separately, a 13-year-old died after an automatic pistol he was fetching for his uncle went off. Police said 13-year-old Hamza, son of Muhammad Sajjad, had gone into his uncle’s bedroom to bring him a pistol he had asked for. Police said Hamza had apparently pulled the trigger firing four bullets which hit him in the chest. He died before he could be treated for the wounds.
