Khan and his naya K-P

Letter July 28, 2016
I request IK to resolve these basic hitches of the K-P people

LAKKI MARWAT: Before the election, Imran Khan vowed to make Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa a model province of Pakistan. IK had made numerous promises to the people of K-P, such as reforming the police system and education. Those problems are still there, which IK vowed to address before the election. Firstly, except some stray exceptions, the K-P police are not free from corruption. In our village, many people engage in drug trade and other illegal activities but the SHO has not initiated any action against these death merchants. The police take the law for granted; no questions asked. Recently, in our village, some people started aerial firing. After some time, SHO Haider Ali Shah came to the scene and arrested the district nazim without investigation.

There are hundreds of other crime examples from this area. Are these the police reforms that IK was talking about? Is it fair to arrest someone without investigation? Secondly, the education sector is still deprived of basic infrastructure, such as classrooms, teachers and other basic necessities. Teachers are absent all day. Education is one of the basic necessities of every citizen and the government is responsible for providing it. Yet there is no accountability. Thirdly, water is also a basic necessity and it is the duty of the government to provide citizens with it. In the rural areas, all tube wells are dysfunctional due to failing operators. Our village tube well has been dysfunctional since before Ramazan began. I personally called the chief minister’s complaint cell four times but to no avail. If the CM’s complaints cell also fails to relieve the problems of the common people, then what will happen to other departments? I request IK to resolve these basic hitches of the K-P people, especially if the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf wants to survive in K-P and win the next elections.
