Celebrating language: Mushaira held at Shahab Dehlvi Academy

BAHAWALPUR:  

A mushaira and a meeting of linguists were held at the Shahab Dehlvi Academy on Wednesday. Parliamentarian Syed Tabish Alweri lauded the academy’s efforts for the promotion of Urdu language.

He said the administration had taken effective measures to make Urdu the official language of business in the district.

Alweri said the official language of the former Bahawalpur state had also been Urdu. He said the late Shahab Dehlvi had been a towering intellectual personality. Parliamentarian Makhdoom Ahmad Alam Anwer, Public Relations Director Sahiwal Riaz ul Haq Bhatti, Professor Mashhood Rizvi also spoke on the occasion.

Later, a Mehfil-i-Mushaira was held. Prominent poets including Syed Ahmad Ali Shah Makhmoor, Professor Talib Hussain Talib, Zahid Ali Khan and Afzaalur Rehman Hashmi recited poems and ghazals.
