PESHAWAR: Activists of Dr Khan Tehreek (DKT) protested against the current education system in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. They  asked the incumbent government to provide education in mother language in all educational institutes.

The activists gathered outside Peshawar Press Club, carrying placards and banners inscribed with their demands and shouted slogans against the government.

The protests were led by DKT Chairperson Abid Munir Khan, Vice Chairperson, Mirajuddin Khan, General Secretary Muhammad Idrees Khan, Information Secretary Zahid Hussain Khan and DKT Youth Wing President Shah Roz Khan.

Talking to journalists, the demonstrators said the education system was based on the English language. This has created difficulties for the public who do not have easy access to education.

“Children from lower income households are kept away from standard education and are shackled in slave chains through a conspiracy,” one of the protester said. He added present education system only produces clerks and nor intellectuals from lower income homes.

According to the demonstrators, upper classes are more adept at creating opportunities through education as they are better facilitated. They urged the government to introduce and deliver education in mother tongue regardless of class which will make it easier for all children to learn.
