PESHAWAR: A man was raped by a taxi driver near Ring Road within the jurisdiction of Pishtakhara police station.

The rape survivor filed an FIR with Pishtakhara police. As per the report, he had hired a taxi from Karkhano Market.

The driver stopped the vehicle near a CNG pump on Ring Road. The suspect forced the man out of the car and took him to an empty plot where he raped him.

The police registered the case immediately and raided the house of the suspect. He was identified as Menhaj, 40, a resident of Landi Akhun Ahmad.

“The accused has been arrested in a raid conducted by the Pishtakhara police soon after registering the FIR,” an official said. “The victim has been sent for medical examination.”

He added the victim was a resident of Karkhano Market.

“We have registered an FIR in the case under Section 377 of the PPC and the matter is being investigated,” he said. The police official said the incident took place the night before and the FIR was registered on Tuesday.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Hayatabad ASP Hassan Afzal said the victim was around 20 years old. He added the man provided enough clues for the police to nab the suspect within a short period.

Later, the victim identified the offender and the latter also confessed to the crime during initial interrogation, he said.

Rights activist Imran Takkar told The Express Tribune this was an unfortunate incident. However, he said the police was playing an active role and actually filing FIRs of rape cases.

“The police are very important stakeholders and I am happy that they are now registering FIRs in rape cases, while victims are also coming forward at the same time, unlike the past,” he said. “The case should be properly investigated and the suspects need to be brought to justice.”

Dr Mehtab | 7 years ago | Reply @Zubair Khan: Really? I worked with the NGO Sahil and can tell you from actually seeing that it is more prevalent in Punjab than any other province. Only problem is in Punjab the perpetrators are protected just like in Javed Iqbal incident. Dont spread your hate and lies among true Pakistanis who stand united.
