TTP member killed in police encounter in Mansehra

Sources say police also rounded up Hafiz Nisar’s close aide

A key member of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was killed during an encounter with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Police and Counter-Terrorism Department in Mansehra, Express News reported on Sunday.

Hafiz Nisar was wanted in several cases related to terrorism and targeting security forces in Battagram area of the province.

Police also rounded up Nisar’s close aide Sahibullah during the encounter besides recovering a huge cache of arms from possession of the suspect, sources said.

The development comes days after two suspected TTP terrorists were killed during a police shootout on Karachi’s Northern Bypass.

An exchange of fire between the police and the terrorists occurred when the police conducted a raid at the suspected hideout of the militants, the police said.

Two militants, one of whom was identified as Rahmatullah, were killed in the shoot-out, while a policeman, Ameer Saad Khan was wounded, District West SSP Pir Muhammad Shah said.

SSP Shah said that the militants belonged to the Swat chapter of TTP and were involved in a number of bomb attacks on law enforcement agencies.
