Corruption case: Non-bailable arrest warrant issued against ex-minister

Former provincial food minister Asfandyar Kakar has been accused of misappropriating wheat sacks from govt warehouses

QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Tuesday issued non-bailable arrest warrant against former provincial food minister Asfandyar Kakar.

Kakar didn’t attend the court hearing pertaining to two different cases of embezzlement of wheat sacks when his bail application was rejected by the BHC.

The former minister has been accused of misappropriating thousands of wheat sacks from governmental warehouses. He is the principal accused in the case and remained on bail in the recent past. Former food secretary is another accused in the case. He has been absconding since the court rejected his application for bail before arrest.



Meanwhile, an accountability court on Tuesday extended former finance secretary Mushtaq Raisani’s remand for the fifth time and handed him in NAB’s custody.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Raisani after more than Rs730 million were recovered from his residence on May 6, 2016. A NAB investigation team submitted an application, seeking extension of Raisani’s custody.



Raisani’s lawyer told the court that the investigation team was not giving him access to the interrogation, “I don’t know anything about the investigation. instead of getting informed by NAB, I am getting updated by the media.”

Raisani requested the court to allow him to meet his family on Eid which the court accepted. Replying to Raisani’s lawyer, the court said the media was doing its job and extended Raisani’s physical remand for 14 days.
