Recent target killing of renowned qawwali singer Amjad Sabri has raised concerns over the state of security in Karachi

KARACHI: The recent target killing of renowned qawwali singer Amjad Sabri has raised concerns over the state of security in Karachi. The murder indicates that target killers are safe and active in achieving their targets without difficulty. Before Sabri’s murder, Awais Ali Shah, son of the chief justice of the Sindh High Court, was kidnapped in broad daylight outside a supermarket and probably taken to the desired location by an unidentified group. The obvious question arises about who is supporting these criminals and allowing them to target high-profile personalities with so much ease.

These incidents are putting the public in a challenging position. When our higher authorities are not safe in the city, then how can the public feel secure? It is appreciable that the Rangers have helped the city get rid of various criminal activities but a lot remains to be done. It is also understandable that it is not easy to completely root out all criminal and terror elements from the city, but is it too much to hope for a safer tomorrow for our children? The people of Karachi look forward to a peaceful city, where one can go to the grocery store safely without the fear of being kidnapped or sit in their cars safely without the fear of being murdered.
