Lyari Expressway

Letter June 27, 2016
The highway plan was designed to relieve congestion on the city’s roads

KARACHI: In the Musharraf era, Karachi saw appreciable development. The city’s infrastructure improved — bridges, overpasses, underpasses and wide roads were constructed. After all these successful projects, Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad signed Karachi’s biggest project, namely the Lyari Expressway. The highway plan was designed to relieve congestion on the city’s roads.

This project was initiated in 2002 and was scheduled to be completed in 2009 but the completion was delayed due to lack of funding and difficulties in resettling the affected people. Today, its construction is still ongoing. I request the government to complete this project and relieve road woes as well as boost the economic situation in Karachi.
