The murder of Amjad Sabri

Letter June 27, 2016
The Taliban and other banned outfits have the power to kill and attack freely anywhere

ISLAMABAD: It seems that whenever there is a terrorist or a targeted attack, the Taliban take responsibility for it. Referring to the recent murder of Amjab Sabri, it is the Taliban again who have claimed responsibility.

I hope the leadership soon wakes up to the actual size of this monster. The simple questions that initially need to be addressed are who is behind this, whether they are more powerful than the state and the security forces or whether they are just puppets for someone or something more powerful behind them.

Despite the ongoing operation against them, they are apparently still very powerful. They can cause a bomb blast anywhere, kill anyone and kidnap anyone. In Karachi, there is a Rangers operation going on, we have the National Action Plan that has been talked about at great lengths, and last but not least, we have Operation Zarb-e-Azb. Yet, the Taliban and other banned outfits have the power to kill and attack freely anywhere and anyone they want. The fault is partially our own because we forget the power of this monster every time. We forgot the APS attack, we lamented for days and months and then again something happened, and we keep on lamenting. There is always new drama with a new tragedy. It is actually we, who are good at drama. Tragedies keep striking and we follow up with emotional reactions and heated debates on television. Each time we try to scream louder, but this serves no results in the end. Simply documenting incidents and pretending things are going well is not going to change anything.
