Hindu man beaten for eating in Ramazan

He was driven to hospital in nearby Mirpur Mathelo where he was treated for his wounds

ISLAMABAD: A Hindu octogenarian has been beaten black and blue in a rural Sindh district for eating during the fasting month of Ramazan, police confirmed on Saturday.

Gokal Das, a resident of Hayat Pitafi, a remote village of Ghotki district, was having Biryani given to him in charity on Friday afternoon when a police constable and his brother beat him up for eating in public in Ramazan.

The village falls in the jurisdiction of Jawar police station. SHO Bachal Qazi said Gokal Das was having Biryani around 6pm on Friday when Ali Hassan Haidrani and his brother Mir Hassan threw the elderly man on the ground and beat him black and blue. “Haidrani, who is posted elsewhere, was on vacation in Hayat Pitafi village.”

According to SHO Qazi, the two brothers left Gokal Das bleeding. He was driven to hospital in nearby Mirpur Mathelo where he was treated for his wounds.

He added that they have registered a case against Haidrani and his brother who have subsequently been arrested. “We will seek remand of the two accused on Monday for further investigation,” he added. However, another police official told The Express Tribune that the local police helped Haidrani escape.

NDA | 8 years ago | Reply In one post on this very story it was said the man was selling 'chickpeas, . The other one said he was eating 'Baryani' which some one gave to him. What version is true. This whole thing smacks of conspiracy. The gullible readers must not blow this out of proportion and our own PPP leadership must not keep this alive. Police investigation report must also be made public on this very newspaper. Every thing said here is not 'truth' and the only truth.

I'm sorry to be kind of generalising but I've had three separate experiences within a year, all on international flights, of a Pakistani man/woman/family asking cabin attendants to get their seat(s) changed, upon knowing I'm an Indian Hindu and going to sit next to him/her/them. The almost identical facial frown when they ask 'Are you Hindu?' upon introducing myself as an Indian is etched in my memory now. I don't consider myself a bad person and nor do people who know me.

This is shameful act indeed and it happens in every country even in my country but that doesn't mean we should start shaming country as whole. It is really saddening to see this happening, we just hope that Justice should be served and example should be set to prevent such incidents from happening again in near future.

This heavy handedness of LEAs is same to everybody no specific attention to minorities. There is rule of jungle in rural areas under the nose of local wadera and complacency all over government quarters.

I don't know why would he beat someone up when there is no such law stating that one must not eat in Ramazan hour(other religion).
