PESHAWAR: Gas reservoirs have been detected in Matwani village of Buner district, however, it was too early to determine quantity or quality. This was said by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Zakat Haji Habibur Rahman.

While speaking to The Express Tribune on Wednesday, he said, “I have asked authorities in Buner to visit the site and collect more details.” He added the matter would be brought in the knowledge of experts from the oil and gas department.

Providing further details about gas reservoirs, Rahman, elected from PK-78 in Buner, said, “Labourers smelled gas during digging of a tube well in Matwani village. Later, they made an experiment with fire and confirmed the presence of gas.” The minister said he received images of fire flames from the site and confirmed it was natural gas.

He pointed out officials of the oil and gas department will be approached so that they can carry out a survey of the site.

He said it will also be asked major spots in Buner be surveyed to find more resource deposits. After Karak, Kohat and Hangu, Buner has become the fourth district of K-P where gas reservoirs have been found.
