Piles of garbage in Karachi

KARACHI: Given the unhygienic conditions in which the Pakistani public lives, it is no less a miracle to see the vast majority of people still alive. It is the local municipality’s responsibility to keep the roads, lanes, streets and walkways clean and fit for human use.

One can observe high number of road accidents that can be attributed to the municipality’s incompetence and lack of sense of duty and care to the public at large. As a citizen, I would like to draw attention to one of the main functions of a government: its responsibility towards its citizens. It is utterly hazardous for children to play on our streets that are smeared by heaps of waste. This will ultimately translate into the government spending increasingly on health services.
