PESHAWAR/ BANNU/ JAMRUD: May 28, 1998 – which is celebrated as Youm-e-Takbeer Day – goes down in history as the defining moment when Pakistan conducted nuclear tests in Chaghi, Balochistan in response to India’s nuclear explosions 17 days earlier. A series of events were organised across the province on Saturday to commemorate the 18th anniversary of this feat.

In Peshawar, Youm-e-Takbeer Day was observed at provincial headquarters of Rescue 1122. The event was organised to pay homage to the services of those who helped Pakistan become a nuclear power. Prayers were offered to ensure prosperity in the country.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of Rescue 1122 officials. Rescue 1122 Director Administration Dr Khateer Ahmad was the chief guest on the occasion.

“It was a matter of pride for the entire nation when Pakistan became a nuclear power in 1998,” Ahmad said.

A series of celebrations were also held in other districts. During a ceremony held in Bannu, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz K-P Vice President Dr Pir Sahib Zaman said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s efforts helped turn the country into nuclear power.

“After the completion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project, Pakistan will become a developed country,” he said. “The prime minister has announced special economic packages for southern areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. This will help eliminate poverty from the region.”

An event was also held at Jamrud Press Club to mark Youm-e-Takbeer Day. On the occasion, PML-N workers held a rally. They marched from the press club to Bab-e-Khyber to pay tribute to the services of national heroes.
