ISLAMABAD: A local court on Saturday granted bail to a man who was arrested for impersonating an ISI colonel and defrauding others.
The suspect, identified as Aamir Hafeez, defrauded people of thousands of rupees by promising to give them jobs in UK.
Abdul Qadir, one of the victims, told The Express Tribune that Hafeez met him more than a month ago and introduced himself as an ISI colonel. Hafeez told Qadir, who worked as a cashier at a bakery, that his brigadier owned a departmental store in London and needed three salesmen.
The suspect said he would charge Rs40,000 each for getting them a visa.
Qadir told two of his friends, Waheed and Khizar Irshad, about the ‘opportunity’ and all three managed to arrange Rs82,000 and handed it over to Hafeez.
However, a few days later they saw Hafeez with some other persons and suspected him of being a fraudster.
The Bhara Kahu police arrested the suspect on May 18 and obtained his two-day physical remand.
On Saturday, police presented the suspect before Judicial Magistrate (East) Malik Muhammad Imran and requested for a 14-day judicial remand.
The suspect’s bail application was also accepted.
The suspect has returned the amount he had taken from Qadir and two others.
SI Mian Imran Javed, who is investigation officer for the case, said the police will submit the challan to the court on Monday.
