PESHAWAR: Security forces killed three militants including their local commander on Friday in a clash in Mohmand Agency.

The clash erupted in the Toi Zai area of the agency during a search operation when both sides exchanged fire, security officials said.

Identities of the militants or other details about the search operation were not disclosed.

Eight militants were killed and 20 others arrested in an operation yesterday in three different districts of the agency after militants attacked a girls school late on Wednesday.

Mohmand Agency, situated north of the provincial capital, Peshawar, has been restive for the past few years.

In December last year, a twin suicide attack on a checkpoint outside a World Food Program (WFP) food distribution point in Ghallani killed more than 40 people. Another attack on a political compound in the Ekka Ghund area in July killed more than 70.
