A trumpet at the IPL

Letter May 02, 2016
Is there a bloke in every game announcing the start of a bull fight — or is it a recording, played over a microphone?

KARACHI: Can somebody who is far, far more knowledgeable about cricket than I am and is more familiar with the IPL currently being held in India, enlighten me on a subject which has intrigued me ever since I first came across it. In every match at some point or the other, usually when Gayle or Maxwell or Yuvraj Singh start sending the ball into the suburbs, or R Ashwin starts to topple wickets, spectators hear a blaring trumpet, the opening bars of the Andalusian paso doble En Er Mundo. What I would like to know is: is there a bloke in every game who blows his lungs out announcing the start of a bull fight — or is it a recording, played over a microphone?

Please do answer my query if you know the answer. The opening bars in question also appear in the two catchy songs that are regularly played during the tournament. Whoever composed that bhangra ought to be given an award to be presented by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the finest and coolest cricket captain that India has ever had.
