Governor’s rule in Sindh will weaken political parties and promote murky political forces to advance their interests
KARACHI: As Sindh, especially Karachi, faces innumerable crises, the possibility of Governor’s rule keeps increasing. However, this would not be the right way forward, as time and again, we have experienced that such an approach weakens political parties and promotes murky political forces to advance their narrow interests.
With the return of civilian government, the military’s role has become more fastidious and scattered. It has kept tight control over its traditional areas of interest.
This aspect cannot be overlooked while assessing the quality of our political parties and their leadership. In the past, military governments have not been the biggest supporters of the growth of civilian institutions. This time, however, the approach seems to be different.
General Sharif wants to expose corruption, the nexus between crime and politics and politicians insensitivity towards the people. It is a refomist agenda, not for any personal gain or power aggrandisement, but for the betterment of the country on an enduring agenda.
